What Was I Thinking??!!

Well, these last few days (and weeks) have been a little bit of a whirlwind. I went home to Iowa for Christmas, and (barely) avoided the treacherous weather. I left a day earlier than planned to beat the storm, and came back a day earlier to beat the next storm. I got home late on Sunday, the 27th and spent the morning of the 28th unpacking, finding spots for new Christmas presents, and catching up reading the Christmas cards and letters that had accumulated in my mailbox. Tuesday evening began our annual Summer Staff Reunion at camp, and I spent all day Wednesday and half of Thursday out at camp catching up with everyone, playing some super-fun games (scwabble anyone?), and getting taken out while playing broomball.
Last night was New Year's Eve, and a good friend got married in Fargo. The wedding was so much fun, and as is usually the case on New Year's Eve, I stayed out too late. I got to bed at 2 this morning, and when I woke up at 9 AM, I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I had a super-pounding headache, and felt nauseous. I originally had lunch plans, but had to cancel them, and went back to sleep until 11 - hoping that I could sleep it off. I still felt terrible when I woke up, but I trudged out to the living room and "watched" (aka laid on my couch, falling in and out of sleep) the Outback Bowl. I had to work at camp at 3, so at 1:30, I made myself get up, shower, and pack for the weekend. Because this was done in such a hurry, I didn't really think through everything I would need for the weekend. The first realization of this was when I walked out to my car and 18 degree below zero temperatures pierced my face. Not only did I not even think to put on my beloved cuddle duds, but I didn't pack them either. Ugh.
I got out to camp and began to set up for the group that would be arriving at 5. Walking from building to building in these cold temps was the infamous piece of straw that broke my back - that's it! I'm buying a parka. In the words of Squints Paladoris (bonus points if you know who he is), "I can't take it anymore!" Purchasing a parka is the next point in the not-letting-Minnesota-winters-make-me-miserable campaign.
My two co-workers left at 5 PM, and I sat around and waited for the group to arrive. They didn't get here until 7:30 - which is fine except that not only did I not think to bring cuddle duds, I also didn't think to bring anything to do. I have a stack of magazines on my coffee table that I've been meaning to read and have fallen behind on, Youth Group small group questions to write, I could have started working on my tax return, I have two books I'm reading, and a bunch of office work that I could have brought out. But instead of being productive, I've just been sitting and waiting. And organizing one of the closets in the office - I couldn't help myself.
And now the group is here, and is all settled, and it's 8:15, and I'm back to where I was before - with nothing to do, but knowing that there is SO much to get done. And also wondering if 8:30 is too early to go to bed.......

Hey...it afforded you time to catch up on your blog so all was not lost. I sent you a message on Facebook...respond when you can... the sooner, the better, in your favor. *wink* I was sitting here thinking about what books you may be reading and re-remembered that you wanted me to look for that "Sam Hill" (or whatever) book that Grandpa gave you. I'll get to that when the weather warms up. *smile* Last but not least, I'm guessing the person that you quoted in your blog was a character in "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid"....not sure why other than the fact that the quote sounds like something Grandpa would have imitated. Ciao for niao! :-) Aunt Cheri ~ The Great

DARN!! I just googled that dude's name and see that I was mistaken. I'm blaming your incorrect spelling. It's "Palledorous" --- according to Wikipedia anyway. I should get bonus points for knowing that it, in SOME WAY, related to Grandpa though...don't you think?
