I've Been Waiting

I wanted to wait until I had pictures before I told you about last weekend. It was April 25th-27th and it was our Women's Retreat at camp. This is what it looked like for the 2007 retreat:

Green grass, sunny and warm. And accordinlgy, my weekend was supposed to look like this: Registration on Friday night at camp, a sleepover with my high school girls, Watch the NFL draft and do laundry on Saturday, along with the usual Saturday night bowling and Big Chief (truck stop). Sunday I was off to Grand Forks to do my last church visit of the year, and I was excited because it was one of my favorites last year.

That was what is was supposed to look like, however, this is what it actually looked like:

Couldn't make this up if I tried. The last one is my favorite, just because it's such an unusal sight. Normally, when you look out the dining room window toward the lake, if snow is covering the ground, it is also covering the lake because it's frozen. But the lake has thawed, and even had white caps because the wind was blowing so hard. It was like nothing I've ever experienced in my life. When you walked outside, you could barely see in front of you because of the blowing snow, and and the snow covered the ground up to your knees, with some drifts as high as my hip, so walking was really interesting.
For those of you camp-minded people, the retreat went well. 65 of the 105 women who registered were able to make it, and considering that the interstate was shut down for two days, we called that a good turn out. I didn't end up leaving until Sunday after the retreat was over (which, by then, the roads were fine because it warmed up very quickly on Saturday night and Sunday morning), so my weekend looked nothing like I thought it would.
Now there is no sign of snow anywhere and everything is a lush green. I leave for DC on Friday, where it will be much warmer (hallelujah!) and then a week from Saturday is the triathlon. I'm pretty excited. I have moments of nervousness, but this time it's mostly excitement. Last year I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do it, and now that I know I can, I'm just excited at the idea of doing it well/better this year.

Wow, what amazing pictures! Such a difference between the two years!

And, have a GREAT time in Washington, DC! I know how much you love going back to visit, so it'll be fun to hear all about your adventures there!
